“Conner is a very talented comedian!”

Special shout out to my couch surfing host - Jocelyn in Victoria! I had some accommodations fall through for my first night on the island and she really came through for me in a pinch. She gave me a bed, hospitality, and even came out to my show!
I think a lot of people assume that touring comics live somewhat of a luxurious life - hotels, restaurants, travel… It seems pretty great, and sometimes I do get taken care of very well by the club, venue or booker. But, a lot of the time, I have to nickel and dime my way through tours to make sure I can make a return. This, being one of those trips.
I’m okay… I’m calm. Baggage fees aside, tours are a risky investment for entertainers. We’re often funding them ourselves and our pay is based on how well the show sells. So of course, don’t just go to shows because you feel bad for starving artists - we chose this life. Instead, go to shows because you’re supporting community businesses and Canadian artists that can better reflect your life as a Canadian. Your presence at live shows matter, because when a town or city is an avid supporter of comedy, more well known comics hear about it, and want to perform there.
I just performed for my first time on Vancouver island and because the shows all went great, I’ll definitely be back - excited to bring my A game for an A audience.
Hope we have some new friends joining the Christmas community as a result.
